Found an iPod

So the other day one of my friends just happens to spot an iPod laying in the middle of the road as we are driving by. So he pulls over really quick, I jump out of the car and grab it, and lo and behold it still works. He let me keep it even though technically he saw it first, so I now have a nice working iPod. At first I tried to see what kind of ways there were to trace a lost iPod back to it’s owner, but unless the person registered the serial number somewhere like lostipods.com or there is someone in the contact list you can use to find the person, then the chances aren’t too good. Anyway, the only problem with an iPod is that they are really designed to work with that whole iTunes thing, which is a no-go for me running Linux. Fortunately there is gtkpod which can be used to connect with an iPod, but I ultimately decided that putting custom firmware on it is an even better solution, especially because I can now play stuff like ogg vorbis files that a normal iPod would scoff at.
